Tiger Eye does not need borrowed mysticism to feel extraordinary. Fine mineral fibres enclosed by quartz reflect a moving band of light known as chatoyancy, the optical effect that gave the stone its name. Some deposits began in iron-rich formations billions of years old. Its story is attention: a surface that changes only when the viewer does.
