Admiral Prince Abhakara Kiartivongse Monument
The Somdet Tia Monument at Royal Thai Navy Task Unit 642 was created as an enduring tribute to Admiral Prince Abhakara Kiartivongse, Prince of Chumphon — revered throughout Thailand as Somdet Tia and remembered as the Father of the Thai Navy. More than a commemorative structure, the monument stands as a symbol of duty, foresight, sacrifice, and the enduring spirit that continues to shape the Royal Thai Navy.
Somdet Tia’s legacy reaches far beyond history alone. His life helped lay the foundation of modern Thai naval strength through discipline, education, reform, and vision. For those who serve today, his image remains as a source of guidance. It is this living significance that gives the monument its true meaning.
Installed at Task Unit 642 in Samae San, Sattahip during the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of his passing, the monument was conceived as a place of honor for naval personnel and the wider public — a space where reverence, institutional memory, and national service come together. In this setting, the monument becomes both ceremonial and deeply personal: a lasting expression of the bond between the founding spirit of the Navy and those who continue its mission today.
BMG was honored to contribute to this legacy through the creation of the monument’s White Carrara marble base. Executed in a material chosen for its dignity, clarity, and permanence, our work forms part of the monument’s complete presence — helping give lasting physical form to a tribute of great national and institutional meaning. In this project, our contribution was a part of a unified act of remembrance, where different material, and craftsmanship come together in service of honor.
For BMG, the significance of this commission lies in being entrusted with a role in a monument of such weight and meaning. The Somdet Tia Monument stands as a tribute to legacy, loyalty, and service.
